How to Make a Zombie Survival Game: Start With One Room
Plan movement, a readable enemy and a short survival loop before adding a large world.
Your first playable milestone
Define a sixty-second loop
Move, avoid one slow enemy, use one attack and survive until the timer ends. A large map, crafting and co-op multiply the systems you must debug.
Make enemies readable
Use a clear approach state, a visible attack wind-up and a cooldown. Keep spawn points away from the player; test a corner and an obstacle before increasing the wave size.
Treat packs as ingredients
Character art does not include zombie AI or combat logic. Check whether the files match your dimensions and licence, and use placeholders for any missing enemy art.
Balance scarcity after controls
Add one ammunition pickup only after movement and damage feel reliable. Cap active enemies and projectiles; test an empty-ammunition state without trapping the player.
Accept the first build
A new player can start, move, attack, lose or survive, and restart without refreshing. Check low frame rates, repeated restarts and readable health feedback.

Check each exact licence and edition. A permission to sell a game does not automatically allow reselling the original pack or including its files in a reusable source product. Keep attribution and notices when required.
