COST & LICENCE

Know before you build.

Sell a game made with thisYes — conditions apply

Use protective end-user terms, retain notices/required credits and submit release notice before monetisation. Apply 5% standard or qualifying3.5% royalty with exclusions; royalty-game development has no seat fee for that use.

Resell the files themselvesUnconfirmed

Check exact permitted redistribution, recipients and channels; do not assume engine ownership or unrestricted resale.

Include in a template/source productYes — conditions apply

Recipients of Engine Code must hold a separate same-version licence. Engine Tools use Fab/Epic GitHub channels; Examples, Starter Content, plugins/assets and other code have separate scopes.

Scope: Royalty game containing Engine Code only inseparably in object code.

Source access is not an open-source licence. Game royalties and non-game seat subscriptions are different routes.

Limitations & compatibility
  • Source access is proprietary EULA access, not open-source clearance or a generic asset licence.
  • Upfront licence fee0 does not mean royalty-free or cost-free development. The per-product USD1m exclusion is distinct from company revenue or seat exceptions.
  • Non-game/royalty-free commercial uses have different seat rules/exceptions; official USD1850 per seat/year is not a mandatory fee for ordinary royalty games.
  • Third-party/Fab assets, Starter Content, Examples and Engine Tools have distinct distribution terms; game-sale permission does not clear arbitrary source/template contents.
  • Licensed Technology must not be used for AI training or as prompt input to AI that trains on input; see EULA6(e). No engine code or purchased files are uploaded by this research.
  • No engine install, target/native run, royalty filing, licence acceptance, source access or preview rehosting is performed.
  • Recorded dimensions/formats stay unchanged; no new importer compatibility claim.
  • Examples have a separate EULA distribution permission; Starter Content/Fab content and Engine Tools do not inherit that permission. Retain full notices and required credits.
  • Reduced3.5% rate requires qualifying release/content/feature/marketing parity; check current iOS waiver and reinstatement notice. Release-form duty remains; current terms no longer make the USD1m exclusion depend on a timely form.
  • Do not combine Licensed Technology with licences that would require incompatible terms; inspect EULA6(c), including its dynamic-link LGPL distinction.
