Limitations & compatibility
- Defold License 1.0 is source available, not plain Apache-2.0/MIT or unrestricted open source. Selling the engine/editor as a Game Engine Product is prohibited.
- Retain Defold licence/copyright, applicable NOTICE and bundled dependency licences; mark modified engine files. Assets, extensions, branding and screenshot permissions remain separate.
- 3D is supported; the FAQ notes additional work beyond its 2D-focused toolset. No comparative performance or integration estimate is established.
- HTML5 bundles require HTTP hosting and WebAssembly-capable browsers. Threaded builds need secure cross-origin isolation; include a non-threaded fallback when hosting cannot support it.
- Console access requires approved developer status and separate platform agreements; editor OS requirements and actual native/mobile/browser exports need version-specific checks.
- No native editor/runtime/export, physical-phone or engine-plugin integration test by Forge. Official editor imagery is linked at the creator; separate reuse permission was not established.
